So if you’re in the Rebel County and are up for a night of great theatre, be sure to check it out!

Heart Shaped Vinyl, Charity Festival Performance

So we’re at it again. HEART SHAPED VINYL is being brought back to life for one night only on October 27th in Kilkenny as part of the Rockfall Festival, all proceeds of which go to the O’Neill Centre in Kilkenny.
This one-night-only performance is for a terrific cause and one we’re immensely proud to be involved with.
The annual Rockfall Festival on the October Bank Holiday in Kilkenny has long been a worthy one and all the more so considering it’s all in aid of the O’ Neill Centre in Kilkenny. All money from the plethora of gigs and events that comprise Rockfall in Kilkenny go to the O’ Neill Centre and a better cause we couldn’t think of.
This year the organising committee wanted to branch out into other areas than gigs and because of the musical focus in HEART SHAPED VINYL they thought it would make a mighty fine addition to the musical bill. Especially considering the last sell out run added a few more complaining voices of ‘Oh, I wish I’d seen that’ to the mix. So yep, for such a good and worthy cause we’re gonna get the crew together for one night only and we’re pretty adamant that this is the last time Kilkenny audiences will get to see it!
So, all the cast and crew are onboard and we’re looking forward to going up on stage and giving it socks for the last time in it’s favoured home of Cleere’s. And as stated, this one night event is for a very, very, very, good cause.
The entire Rockfall Festival this year has been superbly curated by its organising committee (including our own Ken McGuire) and will see a host of musical, cinematic and theatrical activity setting Kilkenny abuzz for one of the big festival weekends of the year in our fair city. (Not to mention the Trasna Theatre Festival and Savour Kilkenny Food Festival are taking place also!)
Curtain Falls On Heart Shaped Vinyl

So it is, the curtain has fallen on the 2007 run of Heart Shaped Vinyl by The Devious Theatre Company. While we might be late in getting around to posting the finale (given it was Saturday), the lateness is well justified with the entire cast and crew having celebrated four consecutive sold-out nights and even bigger ticket demand well into the early and subsequent late hours of Sunday.
We’ve said it during the week but I don’t think any of us could have anticipated the demand and resulting feedback from the show this year. The cast came out each night and gave it 110% to a wide ranging audience from young teenagers right along the line to grandparents and beyond. Even the wettest June on record in Kilkenny couldn’t put off people attending the show and we’re delighted to see that a lot of the audience were completely new to the theatre experience, testament to our goal of creating theatre enjoyable by all ages and placing theatre back as a genuine alternative to sitting in the pub or the cinema.
We do have a number of people to thank and would like to heap thanks to Johnny Holden and Cleere’s Theatre, Mary Butler, Niamh Finn and all at the Arts Office in Kilkenny, the Arts Council of Ireland, The Kilkenny People, The Kilkenny Advertiser, The Kilkenny Voice, John Cleere, Edwina Grace, John Cleary, Andrew McGuinness, all at The Coffee Club on Rose Inn St (who put up with us EVERY Sunday morning), KilkennyMusic.com, Paddy Dunne, Eddie Brennan, Alan Dawson, Michael Keogh, Lombardis (some serious post-show dinner!), Mobile Connections (giving us a nice deal on the printing costs for the show), Stephen ‘Pip’ Colfer, Ruth Calder Potts, Kate St. John, Mike Kelly and all at Young Irish Film Makers, all who came along to the show and supported original theatre and of course, the cast of Heart Shaped Vinyl without whom the show would most certainly not be possible.
We hope to begin publishing shots from Heart Shaped Vinyl to a new gallery on DeviousTheatre.com starting this week. There’s no time for us to slow down however as we empty the theatre (Cleere’s) this evening and commence full rehearsals for Cannibal! The Musical tomorrow (Tuesday).
Once again, thank you for supporting The Devious Theatre Company and we hope that you enjoyed our four night run of Heart Shaped Vinyl because we certainly enjoyed bringing it to you.

A text message this morning brings smiles to Devious faces with word that tonight’s performance, our final of Heart Shaped Vinyl for 2007 in Kilkenny, is sold out. That makes four straight sold-out nights, absolutely unprecedented by us here at The Devious Theatre Company.
Apologies to everyone who has missed out on tickets but there was no way to gauge the demand on tickets for this week but a massive thank you goes out to everyone who has been supportive of the show and have come to check out the 2007 run. We set a 3 night limited run in 2006 as our debut production and just under one year on the demand and feedback on the show thus far has been overwhelming.
We’ve been delighted to bring you Heart Shaped Vinyl once again and hope that you’ve enjoyed the show. To those of you coming to tonight’s performance, we thank you and hope you’ll enjoy the show as we’ve thoroughly enjoyed bringing the show to you.
See all y’all tonight!

First Night Complete, Second Night Sold Out

The curtain fell on the first night of Heart Shaped Vinyl just under two hours ago and I think its safe to say that the opening night was a success - at least from the cast point of view. It would be great to stick a camera back stage and watch everyone’s individual rituals preparing for each of the scenes but whatever was done back stage in preparation certainly worked on stage as the show passed off without a hitch.
The audience were most appreciative and the crowd was terrific for the opening night, not a spare seat in the house. What we’re delighted to announce however is that tomorrow night (Thursday June 28th) is completely sold out. All tickets for the show were snapped up before 7:30pm today which is a little unexpected at this early stage of the show but if you’re looking for tickets for Thursday’s show then you may well be out of luck. Limited tickets are available for Friday while there are also some tickets available for Saturday night.
On behalf of all of us here at The Devious Theatre Company, our thanks to everyone who came out to see the show tonight and support local theatre. We’re on until Saturday night in Cleere’s Theatre, if you are coming to Kilkenny or looking for something interesting, new, innovative, exciting, funny…. check out Heart Shaped Vinyl! If you like it, let us know, we’d love to hear from you!
Heart Shaped Vinyl Opens Tonight

The day of days has arrived for the cast and crew of Heart Shaped Vinyl as The Devious Theatre Company proudly welcome the return of this popular show to Kilkenny, opening tonight at 8pm in Cleere’s Theatre.
We’ve (we as in the royal we here at Devious Theatre) gotten the finishing touches down after several late nights in the past week or so and are delighted to present Heart Shaped Vinyl to you from tonight until this Saturday.
When we first brought the show to Kilkenny in August of last year the script was well and truly hot off the press, the play and company alike virtual unknowns and the reaction to each performance unprecedented. Cleere’s itself provides one of the most intimate theatrical and performance atmospheres in the country so we hope that you enjoy tonight’s performance - and those of the rest of the week.
You’ll likely see the cast and crew around after the show so if you’ve enjoyed it please let us know, we’re always open to feedback and would love to hear from people that come to see our works.
Heart Shaped Vinyl is written by John Morton, directed for the 2007 run by Kevin Mooney and produced by the team of Ken McGuire, Niamh Moroney and David Thompson. For a synopsis of Heart Shaped Vinyl and details on the cast and crew, check here.
The Countdown Begins To Heart Shaped Vinyl
June 25, 2007 by Ken McGuire

It has been less than a year since Heart Shaped Vinyl first took to the stage (August 2006) but already the show is heading for its third run, having been performed in December with the NUI Maynooth Drama Society. That third run kicks off this coming Wednesday night, June 27th, in Cleere’s Theatre in Kilkenny and the countdown is well and truly under way.
Tonight, Monday, will take The Devious Theatre Company cast through the technical paces off the show. Note to other theatre companies out there - you cannot underestimate the sheer importance of an in-depth technical rehearsal. We feel it paid off for us big time last year, the theatre itself being quite restricted in terms of storage space when dealing with a cast of 12 and some large props.
The last of the advertising rolls out this week with the show commencing on Wednesday night. Ticket sales are going quite well but we’re advising people looking to go to pre-book your tickets to avoid disappointment. We’ve managed to increase the seating capacity by 10% or so from last year but tickets and seating are quite limited.
As a committee, the core of Devious Theatre have been working on this current production of Heart Shaped Vinyl for a few months now, all the while planning and preparing for Cannibal! The Musical, testament to the hard work being done by our fledgling group! Bottom line, the countdown is on. At time of writing we’re a few hours away from our technical rehearsal before the full dress rehearsal tomorrow night. We’ll be keeping a journal of the goings on of the week as well so keep an eye on DeviousTheatre.com!

Here it is! The fifth and final teaser poster in the run-up to the opening night of Heart Shaped Vinyl! Rounding out the promotional images, is our take on the classic 90’s music video, “Disco 2000″ from Jarvis Cocker and the good people of Pulp.
Pictured are Lisa Bergin and Ken McGuire playing the roles of Grainne and Des respectively.
